| Re: help a newbie! I quite like 1950's EC titles like Shock Suspenstories and Tales From the Crypt. They are dated but still have a quaintness and charm that's refreshing.

| Re: help a newbie! 30 days or night is a trilogy (so far) of comics with obviously "30 days of night" and then "dark days" with "30 days of night: return to barrow" being the finale.
there are also different "30 days" comics that are all short stories surrounding the main story of "30 days"
well worth checking out.

| Re: help a newbie! I would say Tales from the Crypt is a good choise, as said dated but never tiresome.
I also have - which i thought was quite unusual but good - Dean Koontz comics of his books. I have finished Rats and its a great read. Not really vampires etc but a good horror! but he also has quite a few other titles out.
Burns is a good comic too as well as Vault of Horror |

| Re: help a newbie! A mix of both, entirely depends. Monthly comics I'll buy in the shop almost as a ritual, but you get much better deals on graphic novel and collections online.
Both volumes of Black gas are amazing, truly mental zombie/biological horror The Walking Dead keeps getting better. The only really readable ongoing survival horror (Think Dawn Of The Dead) comic out there. The chacterisation is so dead-on for people trying to survive in a zombie-infested world. |

| Re: help a newbie! The Sandman, or the Watchman... either is a great comic. The Dark Knight returns is pretty awesome. Also anything by TopCow is pretty good as well. |

The Walking Dead's a good shout actually by Mark.
I don't tend to read too many horror titles, so i don't think I'm of much use tbh!
Head to the Mitchell Library or the GoMA library and get yourself registered. All you need is some photo ID and you can take out on loan the graphic novel titles they have. Granted it's a fairly small selection, but you can get stuff ordered in, and you're pretty sure to find stuff like Sin City, Lucifer and Batman etc and things by a variety of writers / inkers. Don't rule certain genres out though, there's a few things I've stumbled across that I like as a result of reading something else written by the same person that I'd maybe never have gone for otherwise. Sometimes the person writing it makes all the difference. |
