Irredeemable

Hi guys

I picked up Mark Waid's "Irredeemable" for the first time last week (the trade and also issue 5) and was really impressed with it. I'm interested to know what other people thought of this one, as I really rated it. I love the narrative style they're taking with it, and the themes in it are really interesting (especially with regard to the whole critique of putting faith in one man to solve the world's problems, quite timely at the moment, I think.) I know a lot of these themes are going over ground already well covered in "Watchmen", "Kingdom Come" etc, but I think it's a really well written book.

Let me know what you thought!

Really been enjoying it so far. I was a little dubious of it initially, both because it seems like such well-tread ground and because the quality of Mark Waid's writing has been pretty inconsistent over the years, but the vividity of the characters really sells it. Tonally it skips between cheery golden age comics and grim tragedy with more effortless grace than any comic I've read since Tom Strong.

'Superman loses his fucking mind and fucks the planet up' was also the basis of the Sellouts arc of POWERS, also well worth reading.

Thanks man, I should really check that out. Is "Empire" any good?

Pretty awesome, I always love Barry Kitsons art. Pure loved his run on L.E.G.I.O.N. back in the day.

I may investigate more of Mark Waid's work, his creator-owned stuff seems to be of a much higher calibre than his mainstream superhero fare.
