Green Lantern n00b.

I'm totally new to Green Lantern, but the comics seem like something I would like.

For anyone in the know, what's the best and worst way to get into the character?

Re: Green Lantern n00b.

Geoff Johns'/Ethan Van Scivers' GL Rebirth series. You meet the main players and how they fit in with the rest of the DCU. Emerald Dawn is a pretty good introductory story into the bargain

Re: Green Lantern n00b.

Denny O'Neil's Green Lantern/Green Arrow is considered a classic, some would say because the 70's patter has so badly that it's funny, but there's a few excellent tales in there. Will World is worth a look for the late Seth Fisher's crazy art and the recently released Sinestro Wars is knock-about fun.

Honestly though, my favourite characterisation of GL is in Grant Morrison's JLA. The first 3 volumes of his run and the graphic novel Earth 2 are some of the best mainstream superhero comics ever written.

Re: Green Lantern n00b.

Hilarious morality tales plus awesome art, to be fair.

Re: Green Lantern n00b.

too be honest most green lantern pre Rebirth wasn't very good. the early stuff, gil kane art aside is typical pre bronze age rubbish, like most dc shit it took the 70s to be any good. Denny's run for me is like Deep Purple, hasn't aged well in some respects but still cool.

Re: Green Lantern n00b.

Thanks guys.

I've currently chucked Rebirth, Earth 2 and Emerald Dawn to the list.

Re: Green Lantern n00b.

i never cared for the kyle rayner? green lantern solo stories, not that I read much. People have good things to say about whatever Dave Gibbons did with Green Lantern in the 80s but I've never looked at it.
