| Re: What comic did you last read? I finished Watchmen last night. I'm not going to lie. I just didn't get it. I didn't get the story, the meaning, the hype...meh.
V for Vendetta was much, much better.

| Re: What comic did you last read? The new edition of Batman: The Killing Joke.
It was well publicised at the time that Brian Bolland was deeply unhappy with John Higgins colours on the original as apparently Bolland had seen this as a 'classic' Batman story (God knows how, I don't remember the joker crippling and molesting Batgirl in the 50's) and Higgins colours reflected the dour, dark 80s with their sickly neon and pasty lifeless drone-people.
The recoloured version is ubelievably good. 20 years on Bolland remains the premier elder statesman of British comic artists, and he's even taken the time to teach himself to colour his own work in the last two decades. One of the major differences is that all the flashbacks are now in black & white, with very subtles undertones of red popping up more and more as the flashback story builds to the Jokers disfigurement and the burst of colour required. A lot of Gotham City looks far more sober and defined and, well, less crazy, which is really the only criticism I can find, and the only reason I'm looking for a criticism to make is that I still find myself preferring the John Higgins version.
There are some parts of the Killing Joke which are irrevocably tied to the period in which it was created (The grimness of the characters for one) but they seem to have successfully made it at least look like a timeless piece. Beautiful and perfectly formed, but lacking something of an edge, which you wouldn't even notice if you hadn't read the original version a hundred times.
Higgins for the win.

| Re: What comic did you last read? It's gorgeous but I prefer the original colouring in all its demented glory.
