| Re: The Mohammed the Bear story Can't forget 'Breach Of The peace', you can storm a crowd full of old ladies with mounted riot police with that one.
Given that most seem to be suggesting that we can make moral judgements on other cultures because they are less culturally evolved, I have nothing useful to add here.
I mean, do you expect the Sudanese government to issue an international press release stating that they've had a think about it, and they've decided that Islam is a bit harsh after all and they're upgrading their cultural ethics to come into line with the white Christian world where its only okay to torture and kill people in the hundreds of thousands?
(That, and the usual forum abhorrence for physical violence and widespread acceptance (and even in some cases encouragement) of verbal, psychological and emotional violence has left somewhat of a bad taste in my mouth.)

Sex-crime is going a bit far, its still technically physical violence after all. | It was a light "paf"-ing, nothing more. |

| Re: The Mohammed the Bear story She's been charged: Quote:
Sudanese state media said prosecutors had completed their investigation and decided to charge Mrs Gibbons under Article 125 of the Sudanese criminal code.
The BBC's Amber Henshaw, in Khartoum, said Mrs Gibbons was expected to appear in court on Thursday.
Lawyers say she faces six months in jail, 40 lashes or a fine if convicted.
| I especially think this bit should be pointed out: Quote:
But Sudan's top clerics have called for the full measure of the law to be used against Mrs Gibbons and labelled her actions part of a Western plot against Islam.
"What has happened was not haphazard or carried out of ignorance, but rather a calculated action and another ring in the circles of plotting against Islam," the Sudanese Assembly of the Ulemas said a statement.
The semi-official clerics body is considered relatively moderate and is believed to have the ear of the Sudanese government.
