| Lesbian couples' sperm donor forced to pay child support.

Saw this in the Metro today but only just got a chance to read it. The basic jist of it is that the man appeared to be happy to play the role of father for a while (The article doesnt say but seems to suggets that he isnt now), and the mother was forced by the CSA to give the fathers details or her support would be cut, and she wouldnt be able to afford to live due to the dependence of her disabled child.
What Im wondering is, why isnt the other mother having to pay? It was her decision to have the child as well, because she leaves, this means she has no responsibilities at all? Seems insane. Lesbians have fought for goodness knows how long for equal rights cases like this make people reconsider their sympathies.

The reason is, the other mother isnt the biological parent, although the CSA and JSA can make both parents pay if it was say a grannie looking after a kid, since the mother has no legal rights to the child nor is financially responsible for said child then child support cannot be claimed for them.

The law only goes by the biological parents. It did state in the metro that, had they adopted the child, then they wouldnt have this scenario. Also if the donor was anonymous.
......im indifferent to this really, interesting case none the less.

Doesnt that bring up the issue of equal rights of a sperm donor then? Its a really iffy situation, in terms of the issue he's raising will bring forward all sorts of other directions from it.
...plus it reminds me of that scene in legally blonde...classing wanking as reckless abandonment, haha

if its an sperm donor the sperm donor is the father, unless its anonymous the person who gives the sperm has to pay.

I think its more the point that, out of a homosexual partnership, should only the biological mother have responsibility? What about the partner?

The other mother should pay, it was a joint decision between her and her partner, the man just decided to donate to them.

Adoptions an unwanted/unexpected child, or a child who cannot be cared for.
This child was clearly planned.

At the moment the child support law states that the absent parent must pay for the child, i doubt the other mother is absent, and with sperm donors the sperm donor must pay although if its IVF a couple get then the person who is the partner of the mother pays.
