There won't be a joint Obama/Clinton ticket. It seems like Clinton would never accept anything but the top job (this was apparently part of a Blair/Brown like agreement that she and Bill cooked up).

Edwards would be a reasonably good choice for VP though, since he covered a lot of demographics that Obama isn't popular with. He's got a decent bit of support from the Hispanic community for example.

Exactly the point of course. He also has sway with white working class voters for whom race is still an issue - the major area that Obama has been struggling with. And more super delegates may be persuaded to go Obama's way based on this as well, which is the last thing Clinton needs.

Check the BBC articles - they clearly state that race is an issue for a reasonably high number of voters:

Eh? I didn't need to say it was from the BBC, any news agency would say the same thing and it's ridiculous to attempt to deny that race is an issue in this election - I'm not saying it's justifiably so, just that it is which is obvious.

And that sentence does not make me look xenophobic in the slightest

To be fair, race is a major issue in US politics and I think we'd honestly be kidding ourselves if we thought that there aren't a number of people who would vote against Obama simply because he's a black man. Sad, but true.

I wouldn't imagine George W Bush is far off that rating, since it seems to be an average score for Republicans - so I wouldn't think his views are too different from the last 15 years.

Liberal just means left-wing, or at least left-leaning in America though. If you look at the issues McCain campaigns on and his voting record, then he is more liberal in the true sense of the word than either of the Democratic candidates - ok, maybe not on social issues. In fact, the democrats have been coming out with some (what I would call) 'un-liberal' views, like raising barriers to trade and withdrawing from NAFTA.
