| Calls to ban "anti-teen" dispersal device http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7240180.stm
There have been calls to ban a controversial device used to disperse groups of under 25s that is being used in parts of the country - including parts of Glasgow. It's called the Mosquito, and works by emitting a sound audible only to those under 25 (when human capacity for detecting high pitched sounds decreases) in order to discourage groups of "feral" youths from hanging around.
A nice idea in theory, but in practise it's pure victimisation of an entire generation I'd say. The BBC comments are entertaining in an infuriating sort of way.

I'm over 25 and can't really hear it anyway. You can look for a sample of the sound online to see if you are "sensitive" to the weeeeeeeeeeeeeee it makes. |

| Re: Calls to ban "anti-teen" dispersal device The noise is pretty fucking annoying, but if yer partaking in such crazy anto-social activities as drinking, shouting, fighting or *SHOCK HORROR* " wearing hoodies" (and I struggle to even bring myself to be able to mention the unspeakable horrors of that last one) then you'd probably be able to drown it out pretty easily.

Talk about discrimination! Its not just the bad kids it affects. It punishes the well behaved, and small kids and babies.
Its wrong! They should be pumping the money their wasting on this and getting more bobbies-on-the-beat to deal with problem-makers or into things for these bored kids to do like clubs or something. This will only drive them from hanging outside newsagents and into residencial areas.
It's a bad, bad show.

| Re: Calls to ban "anti-teen" dispersal device No no, you get these devices to bolt onto your house too!
You can drive them away from shops AND from residential areas, and drive them into the sea instead |

I seriously hope it's not a fair spread of the opinions they receive.

It's a bad, bad show. | You can't really compare the price of these to the cost of employing a police man. The buzzy things cost £100 a shot, Bobbys get paid a five figure sum per year. |

| Re: Calls to ban "anti-teen" dispersal device It's inevitable though. A call from Liberty to ban this device is pretty much baiting members of the Mail-reading right into 'enlightening' us with their belief that this is all part of a grand left-wing conspiracy against British values. "What's this country coming to?" Enraged, Sussex.
