You're over simplifying.
Just because they were appointed by a Republican does not mean they will vote in favor of the party's stance. Justice Souter, for example, was appointed by Bush Sr but is noted for frequently voting for the more liberal verdicts.
Justice Stevens, appointed by Ford, is also known to be quite liberal, while Justice Scalia generally interprets the constitution literally and consequently is a strong supporter of democratic freedoms (while still admittedly takes a conservative stance on many issues).

I'm not sure how the justices appointed by Regan and Ford 'owe there(sic) position' to Bush either.
