There are questions regarding your sexual exploits that rule people out. I cannae mind why but I laughed at question 48 when I was filling it out. I cannae even mind the question.
Theres all sorts, if ye've had a tattoo in the last 6-12 month or something.

the questionnaire thing focuses on sexual activity, not sexuality and if you're looking at it that way anal sex still puts people at the highest risk of HIV transmission.
one of the questions on the BTS website is:
"have you had sex during the last 12 months with someone who is, or may be, HIV positive, or a carrier of Hepatitis B or C"
from what i've read on there, the screening is not 100% effective on its own. This is about risk prevention, not discrimination as far as I can see.
There are so many other activities that prevent you from donation for the same reason. I couldn't give blood because I may have been exposed to malaria in the past year. A lot of people on the forum couldn't because they've been pierced/tattooed in the last year.

Also prostitutes, intravenous drug users and anyone who's ever participated in "blood swapping" practises (for religious reasons or otherwise), are excluded.

I'm not yet favouring either option, until I understand how we arrived at the current legislation and if it's still relevant. If it's simply baseless persecution, I'll happily support the repeal. Until then, I'm saving righteous indignation. | |

Also, as far as bisexuals go, there are restrictions on their female partners as well, although that might be time limited.
I would presume that you can become infected with HIV without having penetrative sex at all. Through ingesting semen for example. | |
