A new poster is being launched in the continuing fight against human trafficking. The poster states, "walk in a punter, walk out a rapist" to warn men to think twice about paying for sex with someone who is being forced to work in the sex industry. The poster goes on to ask whether the reader is man enough to call Crimestoppers if he uses a prostitute he believes to be part of the massive human trafficking problem we have in the UK.
The posters are to be put up in pubs and clubs toilets. It may seem to some to be a strange place to put posters, but the report on the BBC news site goes on to say, "The peak age for men buying sex is 34, about half of whom are in a relationship, a 2007 report showed." which may be surprising to many people.
I think such a poster campaign is a good idea, even if it should be seen as the least that can be done. Whether men using prostitutes will consider the plight of the girls they pay is debatable but I think it is wrong to think of men who use prostitutes as strange and abnormal as I just don't believe that this is the case.
