| Barrister shot 5 times... so? Not sure if people know the story here, so.. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7391858.stm
I dont get why the family are demanding an inquest, or why the police feel the need to offer an appology for the shooting.
The guy was firing a shotgun out of his window in Chelsea, towards another house. The cops turn up, and he fires at them.. OF COURSE they're gonna take him down hard.

| Re: Barrister shot 5 times... so? Yeah always inquests I believe.
Interesting story, but yeah don't be expecting to shoot away at the police and them not to return fire.

| Re: Barrister shot 5 times... so? Forgive my cynicism, but I'm pretty sure most of the hype surrounding this case is that the man shot, and more importantly, the man doing the shooting was *gasp* middle class. I mind the Guardian headline was something like "HOLY FUCK, MIDDLE CLASS PERSON ENVOLVED IN A CRIME!!!"

| Re: Barrister shot 5 times... so? Him being shot by at least 2 different weapons for a grand total of 5 times seems pretty restrained to me. I imagine if I was in that situation I'd empty the gun into the dude, reload and repeat. I seem to remember something about the coroner for the SAS Iranian Embassy shenanigans in 1980; when examinging the body of one of the terrorist he got fed up and stopped counting at 82 bullets, or thereabouts.
Don't shoot at the police, kids. They take a dim view of that sort of activity.

| Re: Barrister shot 5 times... so? It seems he was armed with a shotgun, I doubt that taking him out was the only option available.
Hence the reason for inquest. |

| Re: Barrister shot 5 times... so? The incident seems fairly straightforward (unless it turns out he was actually Brazillian and brandishing a table leg...) but aye there should always be at least an inquest when someone has been shot by the police. If only to establish if it was reasonable force.

| Re: Barrister shot 5 times... so? The guy's father has been saying "Why did they have to shoot him? He wasn't endangering anyone!" Since when is firing a shotgun at your neighbours not endangering them? This whole thing is nuts. Why was he keeping a frickin' SHOTGUN in one of the best areas in London, if not the UK, anyway? Crazy bastards and their fucking hunting. |

| Re: Barrister shot 5 times... so? I havnt read too much about this i must say,so i know only the bare details.
but if he was firing at passer bys or people in another property and wouldnt put the gun down then what are the police meant to do?
it is a bit random thought eh?
i dont think ive ever heard of a middle class person commiting a crime, the working class can have a day off i suppose. |
