Reading books is kinda like living in a wee bubble.

I read loads of books but I dont watch much tv, and as such have a pretty good imagination but very little grasp of current affairs.

I tend to read when I'm out and about (Very rarely go out without a book) but I can't see myself doing this watching television.

Fuck that. They depress the utter shit out of me.

I just dont find current affairs that important, I enjoy my wee bubble.

But, TV gives one an infinitely greater idea of what, for example, a lion stalking and catching an antelope actually looks like than does a natural history book.

A writer can pen beautiful prose to describe an area of outstanding natural beauty, but seeing its reality is a different thing entirely. Not that the prose is somehow worse, it's just different. Serves a different function.

Which doubtless means that important parts of my imagination have come from watching tv. Im not disagreeing here at all really.

I prefer reading to pretty much anything, I've always got 3 books on the go so that when I inevitably lose one, there's still 2 more to plough through.

Pick a story that looks like it's going to go on for a while and follow it. Don't even read a whole newspaper, just read the story you've picked every day. You'll be surprised how quickly you get wrapped up in it, and want to know what's going to happen next, just like serialised fiction.
Recommended right now: the US presidential contest and Russia acting all badass.

I think what people's problem is the AMOUNT of time some kids devote to tv - watching lots of it as opposed to watching some and reading a little is surely not as good for them?

Doesn't work for me, I get confused by all the diferent information and in all honesty, I have very little interest in most of it.

I'll read up on films etc, but thats about it.
