| Guy fined for holding a sword in a picture http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/...st/7716388.stm Quote:
A teenager from Ayrshire who was caught posing with a sword on the social networking site Bebo has been fined £200 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.
Anthony Bowman, 19, pleaded guilty to displaying the image on Bebo between January 2006 and July 2008.
His case came to light after police conducted a trawl of the internet in a bid to cut crime and disorder.
| So right, I get the whole bid to cut knife crime thing, but what possible fucking charge can you conjour to press against someone for posing in a photo?
Loathe as i am to defend LARPers and the like, but surely this is an absolutely ridiculous precedent to set in regards to people that have hobbies involving replica weapons.
Fuck knows what theyd have done had they come across big scapegoats airsoft photos. |

| Re: Guy fined for holding a sword in a picture Recently I got emailed a picture by (I'm being 100% genuine here) a very jealous ex (of a girl I was seeing), he sent me a picture with him holding a gun (real or not, I dunno) and then later a knife.
I never called the cops or nothing though.

I never called the cops or nothing though. | The attachment says more than I need to say about the jealous ex.

Originally Posted by Shannow but what possible fucking charge can you conjour to press against someone for posing in a photo? | Possession of a bladed weapon is an offence, and it's what we call a 'strict' offence in that you don't need to have done anything further to be guilty of it. It's automatic. You possess a blade*, you've committed a crime. So putting a picture of yourself holding it online is not very clever, and is all the evidence the fiscal needs to prosecute you for it.
*there are exceptions for length (i.e. swiss army knives), religious practices, use in a trade or other common household use.
