This will only result in increased divorce rates and adultery numbers. Connecticut, New Hampshire, Oregon, Vermont and Washington allow civil partnerships. Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts and California currently allow gay marriages. New York recognises same sex marriages if they're performed in another state. It's not just a California issue.

Joking aside, if that's what marriage is to you then you should know that this law won't stop you from saying or feeling whatever the hell you want, so what difference does it make? Personally, though, I think a reasonable part of the reason for the process of marriage is about solidifying a unified household in order to create a more stable environment in which to raise a family. Since gays can't really DO the whole "raising a family" thing, why bother letting them marry each other?

Well having worked in the LGBT Centre for 18 months for an LGBT Rights charity I can say that, yes, I do know more than a handful of gay people, I can say that what you've said is crap. Sweeping statements aside, you have to acknowledge there are many gay people in long-term faithful relationships, as well as promiscuous hetero's.

Marriage (of both gay and hetro variety) comes with tax breaks, some changes to benefits and you can get divorce settlements, which you can't get if you just co-habit (as far as I know).

2. What would you do about straight couples who are infertile who don't want kids? Annulment?

3. Gay people can and do have children, on average 1 in 5 lesbians and 1 in 16 gay men are parents
