| Re: Proposition 8 - Why America is still shite. Civil partnership sounds more appealing anyway, ever seen a couple that've been married 20 years and are still civil to each other? |

| Re: Proposition 8 - Why America is still shite. Straight people who are pro-gay marriage clearly don't know enough gays.
I'm serious.
If you did know at least a handful of homosexuals, you wouldn't waste your fucking time "campaigning for the rights of the oppressed" here - you'd realise that gays, for the most part, are horrifically unfaithful and unable to commit to anyone or anything other than whatever takes their fancy that week.
This is the realest shit you ever read, by the way, so listen up. Legalising gay marriage, particularly in a flamboyant American state like California, will only lead to a number of gay couples getting married "TO MAKE A STATEMENT ABOUT HOW PROUD THEY ARE OF THEIR LIFESTYLE CHOICE" and then no-one really giving a fuck anymore once the gimmick dies off. This will only result in increased divorce rates and adultery numbers. Gays are fucking dotty spazzy bastards who could never ever really muster the type of commitment that is truly necessary to fulfill what should be a basic requirement for wanting to get married in the first place, and so should not be allowed to do so.
Sorry - please add "a large number of" at the start of my last sentence there, to avoid complaints about my "sweeping statements".

| So are a large number of straight people.
Connecticut, New Hampshire, Oregon, Vermont and Washington allow civil partnerships. Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts and California currently allow gay marriages. New York recognises same sex marriages if they're performed in another state. It's not just a California issue. |

| Re: Proposition 8 - Why America is still shite. I'm not saying disallowing gay marriage is a one-stop all-encompassing solution to idiots getting married who shouldn't bother, just saying it's damage limitation.

MARRIAGE in its human form is a couple saying that they love each other and they intend to spend their life together. It shouldn't matter if the two people are of opposite sexes or the same sex.
You do realise that whilst it is a state rights isue, its also a human rights issue.
Proposition 8 is utterly ridiculous, and a denial of human rights. |

Joking aside, if that's what marriage is to you then you should know that this law won't stop you from saying or feeling whatever the hell you want, so what difference does it make? Personally, though, I think a reasonable part of the reason for the process of marriage is about solidifying a unified household in order to create a more stable environment in which to raise a family. Since gays can't really DO the whole "raising a family" thing, why bother letting them marry each other? Quote:

Sweeping statements aside, you have to acknowledge there are many gay people in long-term faithful relationships, as well as promiscuous hetero's.

2. What would you do about straight couples who are infertile who don't want kids? Annulment?
3. Gay people can and do have children, on average 1 in 5 lesbians and 1 in 16 gay men are parents
