Haha @ you for reading the Record.
Can anyone suggest a newspaper for me? I've finally given up on the Daily Record under the associate editorial of Joan Burnie. It's been a long time coming. I'm sick of having to read between the lines of every fucking article, wading through all the self-righteous opinions of the paper to get to to the actual story...that is, when they actually print a story, and not smothering the front page with an article about Jon Sargeant quitting Celebrity Dancing Factor or whatever the fuck the programme is called. Or printing an interview with someone, an interview that seems strangely familiar, until I realise I have already read it in the Radio Times or some other magazine the day before, because the Record canny fucking find anyone of value to interview and decide to print, word for fucking word, someone else's interview.
I'm also sick of Joan Burnie because of the whole man-hating persona she's built around herself; I don't feel threatened by her supposed "feminist" stance, as I suspect it's all bullshit, having unfortunately seen her voice her views on the telly and smiling wryly as the men in her audience worked themselves up into a lather, not realising she's just a shit-stirring opinion canvaser. "Hey, lets voice an opinion, that way we can see which way our readers swing and start a campaign for or against said opinion accordingly." Yeah, that worked with yer anti-wean smacking campaign a couple of years ago, didn't it? A 3 page spread on how giving your wean a smack on the bum should be against the law, including a number to phone to voice your approval of the campaign...two days later, in a tiny 5 line paragraph hidden in the middle of the paper, the results of the phone-in reveal that naw, Scotland wants to punish their children, and that the campaign has been dropped. Nice one. "Voice of Scotland"? Shut the fuck up.
So aye, I'm looking for another paper. Preferbaly not a red top. I know it sounds a bit petty getting worked up over something as daft as this, but it riles me, and I need something news-worthy to read with my breakfast. And finding a newspaper that doesn't voice it's opinions in every article is probably impossible...
Haha @ you for reading the Record.
I always found The Guardian was a good bridge between tabloid and spreadsheet newspapers.. not too high brow, but not you're average builders read.
Al
"I'm looking for freaks to burn out stars with, searching for misfits to get lost with."
Do you wanna funk with me?
Someone else had suggested the Guardian, I may give it a try. *heads over to the free paper section of the library* But honestly, I can see what Charlie Brooker was on about last night, with newspapers becoming increasingly irrelevant thanks to everyone getting their news off the interwebs, forcing the papers to fill up space with what happened on the latest episode of "Celebrity Bullshit." That, or starting campaigns. I actually had an argument with my dad about the whole Brand/Ross thing last week because of the Daily Record, telling him not to get worked up over something he hasn't seen just because the papers told him to. He saw sense in the end.
People still read the daily record?
I tend not to buy newspapers but I if do its usually the guardian or the independent. Internets ftw.
Hold up, the Daily Record isn't a quality publication? This certainly is news to me.

Yo
na that's only shit tabloids that do that.
the guardian/independant both have decent articles on more than just "this weeks celabrity bullshit"
I'd like to point out that I've read the Record with growing anger over the years because it was the only paper coming into the house. This will change.
The Economist, New York Review of Books, Foreign Affairs (not all of it just what interests me) or newsites/blogs that you find interesting.
Personally whenever anyone is talking about a news story or I see something on the news that grabs me then I just read up on it.
I buy the Herald when I can, I love how West End it can make a person feel.
Seriously though, I read the internet for all my current affairs n shit.
I'm neither a "glass is half empty" nor a "glass is half full" kinda guy...either way the glass needs topped up!
Al Jazeera for me, keeps me one step ahead in jihad and non-jihad related information.
Yo
The Daily Record is absolute horseshit, same league as The Sun. I wouldn't even call it a newspaper.
I like The Guardian, it's got good, informative, relevant content without being too dry. A lot of decent humour in it too, especially in the supplement. It's pitched well left of centre, though, and you're in danger of getting tarred with the "Guardian Reader" brush.
If I can't get The Guardian, I usually go for The Independent or The Times. They're a bit more dry and serious, though.
Willies.
