| Re: Two soldiers shot dead inside their own barracks Just saying I cant see how you can compare Northern Ireland to Iraq/Afghanistan...
But then I don't really have any sort of interest in either side of the political/religious situation there, unlike many of the people here do...

Why bother throwing yer 2 bit offensive comments in at all if you've no interest? I mean ask away but your first couple of comments come across like you know or have an interest in what you are talking about, which is why Les has pointed out as much mate. |

The weekends events happened in my home town and ten minutes from my house. There definately will be a loyalist backlash, and i'm hoping it won't go tit for tat.

| Re: Two soldiers shot dead inside their own barracks If it was the RIRA, I'd be interested in hearing their reason for it. After such a long period of republican guerilla inactivity, if it's not been a British engineered inside job, I wouldn't be surprised if it was retaliation for something that's happened recently that we've been unaware of.
As Chris has said I can't condone the killing of anyone, but there's still a very real war on in the occupied territories, and these men are unfortunately the casualties. The biggest tragedy is that two young working class men were in a dangerous situation and died, just so Britain can secure it's sovereignty in a country that doesn't belong to them.

| Re: Two soldiers shot dead inside their own barracks I don't think for one second the state killed them, but I simply cannot believe that the state never knew about it in advance, given the warnings/infiltration of the paramilitries.
Guerilla inactivity fuck all, this shit goes on all the time, theres just no been any deaths of military personnell. The groups are pre-occupied with sorting out the 'drugs trade' in their communities.
That's what I can't get my head around, the timing of this shit.
I'll wait on official statement, as I said. |

| Re: Two soldiers shot dead inside their own barracks I've never seen the republican guerilla group's "activities" with drug dealers as part of the armed campaign, seems more like regular community vigilantism, but I see your point.

| Re: Two soldiers shot dead inside their own barracks its a sad thing to happen, especially as there has been no trouble for a long while over in Ireland. I just hope that it was a one off and there are no reprisals or shit from it. |

| Re: Two soldiers shot dead inside their own barracks The currently banded theory for the attack is retaliation for a confirmation special forces and special branch have been operating in Northern Ireland again. Either that or it's an attempt to get their voices heard, as they play no part in the current peace process.
As to how they got away.. British services operate under strict rules of engagement whilst guarding MOD property under which if the attackers couldn't legally be deemed a threat (i.e. they were escaping) then one cannot open fire. Paticularly if the situation is crowded and confused.
Still... the guy who saved the civillians life deserves merit if ever I saw it, I wonder how many people would think to do something as selfless as that? |

Go back far enough and we'll have to live under Roman rule, and I'm not sure Berlusconi would be a good trade for Gordon Brown.

| Re: Two soldiers shot dead inside their own barracks Police officer shot in N.I tonight. Dunno if its in anyway related at this moment in time but I thought its worth a mention. Quote:
A police officer has been taken to hospital following a shooting incident in Craigavon, County Armagh, police have said.
He has been taken to Craigavon Area Hospital, but there are no details about his condition.
It is understood that the attack happened in the Lismore area.
| Hopefully its not another fatal shooting. If this is, there will be more outrage.

| You can never say never.
Theres been no murders by the RIRA in 12 years and now there is 2 (maybe 3) in the space of 48 hours. I'd say thats a cause for a huge worry.
If you think there won't be any fuck kicked up over this (if it is confirmed the RIRA is behind this), then you are very mistaken. Action will be taken and it could just be tit for tat all over again. Most likely not be by the British goverment either.
Thats a good question as well. Do the RIRA want the loyalists to retailate? |
