I meant from the perspective that all opposing parties see what's going "sour" with the current government in our country, claim to change it all and fight for the people, then unanomously fail to do so and make a rip roaring cunt of it.

Ala New Labour - it's about as a far away from what it said it was going to be when it took over from Thatchers Tories as humanely possible.

As for the little excursion, it'll not make a jot of difference to anyone's electoral prospects. There's loads of folk that still go and see We Will Rock You even though Queen played Sun City, our very own Rod Stewart is still a national tresure despite also playing SA during apartheid and investing heavily under apartheid wasn't the death of Barclays Bank and Sir David Murray did OK out of mining. In business and entertainment what you did in SA under apartheid doesn't have a great deal of bearing on your fortunes today provided you never actually lived there and I don't see why politics will be any different.

All you are saying is that political parties make promises in order to become elected then invariably break some of them. That's just democracy.

If you'd been as glib as to just say "power corrupts" then the depth of political analysis and commentary on display would likely be more adequatly summed up (or exposed if you prefer).
