It's impact Vs intention. People that continue to use chinky/paki/ what have you are likely NOT flag waving racists, but the impact of the language is enough to upset someone. This is why there are some "accepted" casual racism that should be drilled right out of common usage.
This recent incident says a lot about the Aussie view of race issues. A national, family variety show which allowed a group to perform in black face. I thought Harry Connick Jnr. handled it very well, but I cannot, simply cannot believe that the men performing were doctors - highly educated people who should know better.
