Prince Charles's funding from taxpayer rises to £3m

The amount of money received by the Prince of Wales from the taxpayer rose by almost a quarter last year, accounts released by Clarence House revealed today.
The figures show that money from grants in aid and government departments jumped 23.5%, increasing from £2.4m to £3m.
The main cost was a 48% rise in official travel by air and rail, which rose from £1.15m to £1.7m.
The prince's private income increased by only 1%, to £16.4m, during the last financial year.
That money, which comes from the surplus generated by the Duchy of Cornwall – the landed estate given to the heir to the throne – increased by £185,000 to £16.4m.
Charles's official expenditure rose by nearly 20%, from £10.4m to £12.5m. The heir to the throne paid less tax, with his bill falling from £3.42m to £3m, a drop of almost 10%.
