| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow "What is this 'affordable social housing' you speak of?" enquired the Glasgow city councillor.

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow Be fair. Whilst the Council seem dead set against doing any good for the people of the city, individual housing associations put in a hell of a lot of effort. Reidvale & Molendinar especially do a fantastic job.

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow For sure, they could do with the support from higher up/further along the chain though. If every HA in Glasgow changed their name to Stephan King Palace of Fun Enterprises they'd probably find blank cheques in the mail on a weekly basis.

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow Is it only me that is looking forward to the new Transport Museum?
I was choking to get involved on that bulid too but BAM weren't recruiting at the time.
Transport Museum was one of my favourite places as a wee guy, used to go fairly often and I'm looking forward to the new one opening up.

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow The Transport Museum’s going to be braw. Might well be Hadid’s best building yet, right here in Glasgow.

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow Glasgow School of Art is currently holding a competition to design a new building opposite the iconic Mackintosh building. About 200 architects were expected to enter, but in the end only around 150 did. The shortlist has now been decided, and a full decision on which design has won is due in Autumn. The budget is around £50m.
This project will likely involve the demolition of the buildings opposite the Mackintosh (including the Union, which I'm not sure the students there realise at this point) and a substantial new build project going up on the plot instead. I'm looking forward to the months of construction noise in my local area. I'll also bet now that at least one digger will stall trying to go up that mental hill and cause an accident on Sauchiehall Street. http://www.architectsjournal.co.uk/m...202387.article

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow Yep, we are. Doing a lot of luxury hotels at the moment, that industry’s turning out to be a safe bet through these dodgy financial times. Not handling the graphics on it though.

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow i noticed sometime a few years ago (maybe around the bbc thing) they were looking for architects and a lot more interior / exterior building design people. great move imo, the work on the website is excellent and i'd imagine the turnover would explode with this sort of work!
if any of the g guys have regular blogs i'd love to take a look - didn't you stop using typescape? |

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow Aye, nobody at our place blogs, certainly not about work-related things at least. The only updates we put out are on the news page of our website.
It’s swings and roundabouts as the years go by. Ten years ago the graphics side of our business was huge and the interiors side tiny. Now it’s the other way round.

| Re: [Architecture] Developments in Glasgow There’s a hotel going on the car park site at the top of Candleriggs and Albion Street. It’ll be a good while before that happens though.
There’s a really ugly block of flats going on the site of the Great Eastern hostel on Duke Street.
As the press reported over the weekend, there’s planning going through to turn the old Prince’s Dock into a 300 berth marina, down by the BBC Scotland HQ (where the Loch Lomond seaplane already flies from). Scottish Enterprise are in charge of it though, so I’ll be surprised if anything ever actually happens. They want it to provide a combined use for private berthing, floating offices and restaurants and some island sites for hotels and houseboats. I suspect the announcement has been cannily timed to cash in on the annual River Festival that’s coming up.
