Theres a law against taking photos of undercover officers or photos taken with the intent assist a terrorist act.. This has somehow been misinterpreted as 'illegal to take photos of the cops' which it absolutely isn't There was a couple of tourists pulled up for taking photos of 'sensitive buildings' recently who were forced to delete all their holiday snaps as even the police thought this was the case.
i think its one of these "to be used as and when it suits/if the particular "officer" is a bad mood that day" laws

As was proven at when it came into effect, section 76 of the anti-terrorism act can be quite easily interpreted as meaning that it is a potential terrorist act to photograph any member of her majesty's constabulary or armed forces.
