because im not british. i am scottish. i wasnt born in 'britain' i was born in scotland. the way i see it if, because a few countries are joined together, you are one nation then everyone in france, germany, etc should all be called europeans, and they live in europe. no seperate countries then. if i have to be british, then they have to be european. ill walk into france and start calling them all germans, coz they're like the same country, right? come to think of it if thats the case all americans are now canadian. see how they like it

Because it should be a decision based on political and economic viability, not on what nationality you identify with. The idea that we're being fucked over by England is a bit of an exaggeration if you ask me anyway.

What about the folks that are fiercely patriotic argument or think that Scotland has an abundance of resources to allow us to grow, that we're being held back? What about political independence? (note - still on me fence, trying to stir up a fight....)

I dislike that I'm lumped into the same pigeon hole as Central Belt folks. I'm not Scottish. I'm Aberdonian, and proud of it.

Support Highlands, Islands & NE Independence from frankly horrendous Glasgow/Edinburgh bias.

You were born in Britain. Everyone in France, Germany etc ARE Europeans. As are we. We're Scottish, British and European. Our nationality is British, my national identity might be Scottish but I'll accept that my nationality is British and I don't really see any reason to let it bother me.

no. i was born in scotland. britain is gay. if i have to be british then scotland, ireland, wales and england all have to have their names removed and just be called britain. my country only needs one name and scotland will to it nicely. 4 is being greedy (scotland, britain, UK, europe)

Head back to 1707 and stop the Parliament of England passing the Acts of Union then.

Otherwise you're ignoring the last couple of hundred years of history, while being blinkered by this nationalistic SNP rationale which I despise.

I like how Will Self put it (paraphrasing) "I don't identify with britishness but I'll accept that I live in an archipelago which happens to be called Britain, ergo I am British."

Exactly. And neither is frustration at the ignorance of others.
You can't argue that Scotland should be independent because some Americans are confused by our geographical and political situation.
We're better off in the union in my opinion and that's a good reason to stay in it.
