I think I must have a ghost in our house, or someone sneaking into the house when we are not looking to have a fag...
We keep getting the smell of smoke in random places in the house, even when all the windows are shut and even when I haven't had a cigarette all day (I don't even smoke in the house anyway). It disappears just as quickly as it appeared leaving no smell at all!

That is odd. Odd indeed. Do you think that something traumatic happened in your house - maybe there was a fire and people died. And the sorrow was so great that the walls recorded it as the sole (or soul) witness.....

Either that or someone who used to live here was a heavy smoker and died in the house at some point. I wished it was something as exciting as what you suggested!

Dunno the quote but I like the sentiment - maybe with the progress of science in the future our understanding and ability to investigate such phenomena will lead to us thinking such things are explainable.
