What is your fav club in Edinburgh and why

I am going out in edinburgh but i have never been out there before. I am 21 (tis my birthday today) and I like rock and alternative music but would be willingly to go to any good club as long as it is not RnB or hip hop centred. thanks

Well, edinburgh's answer to the cathouse is Opium, which is alrighty. They used to have an industrial night on a wedensday which was good.

Best club nights in Edinburgh are: Ascension, Cyberia and Gigantor, all at the Teviot union: industrial, ebm, cyber, a bit of goth, gigantor play punk music as well. Disko Bloodbath is a really great alternative gay night, I cant mind the name of where it is though. Dead good but.

And a good all rounder does tend to be the bongo club. they've usually got something interesting happening. There's also a night called Neon, which I dont know if its still running, but it used to be free entry and a pound a drink, rock, techno, electro. It was all a bit sleazy, a bit goth, but fooking excellent.

subway on the cowgate caters well for the alternative crowd nowadays as well if i remember correctly.
also heard rumors, that opium shut down, anyone know if thats true?

i concur with pretty much all the lady above said. All the Teviot union stuff is on a Saturday though midweek's a bit harder to find somewhere to go in Edinburgh.

I'd avoid Opium like the plague Friday/Saturday. Not sure what their drinks prices are like midweek, but Friday Saturday they're through the roof. Sunday is a quid a drink which ou can't argue with though.

The Bongo Club's a good shout. I know we normally end up there as a backup if we can't find anything else on.

Grab yerself a Metro or hop on their website, it has listings of what's on in Edinburgh and Glasgow tonight. You might find something of random interest.

Opium is their Cathouse? Hell no, it isn’t. The Mission at Studio 24 is Edinburgh’s long-running alt night. Opium is a wee upstart bar with a late license and a little dancefloor in the corner.

I was of the opinion (albeit uniformed) that Edinburgh was kindsa yawnish and that Glasgow was where its at, however as Im going to be in Edinburgh for a week, any club or decent pub info would be appreciated.
