| June 18th: Who will be Holland's next victim? On this last day of the group stages, we return to Group D for two matches that will hopefully be slightly more interesting than they sound: Greece - Spain and Russia - Sweden.
Current group status:
Spain have secured top place in the group after beating Russia and Sweden already and they play Italy in the Quarter Finals on Sunday. Tonight they play the reigning European Champions in a match that is of zero importance, so it should be Spain B.
Fair enough, it might be interesting to see if Greece can save face, but the second match is where it's at. Russia and Sweden will be battling for the second place in the group to get through to play the Netherlands on Saturday in the Quarter Finals. It's not enviable since the Netherlands have thus far destroyed everyone in their path and are currently favourites (well, they were when I was in William Hill last night on my break, correct me if I'm wrong). So far Russia have been the unreliable underdogs (but have Arshavin back), and Sweden are mediocre to okay on the best of days, relying on Henke and Ibra to pull them out of the doldrums. Also, this might be Ljungberg's last international game, and as much as he's shit now - he was amazing in Arsenal's unbeaten season, so I'll always love him in a non-homo way.
It's do, or die, though. So it should be a decent one. I'm at work, but I hope to catch most of the game (the Russia - Sweden game, that is.) Enjoy it, lads and ladies. |

Naa, Sweden will edge it. 2-1 to the Swedes.

| Re: June 18th: Who will be Holland's next victim? Much as I'm rooting for a Sweden win on this one, it's nice to see the Russians learn from their Spanish arse-raping and up their game.

I honestly fancy them to beat the Dutch. Dutch may well have beat the Italian's and French, but it does not mean they can't be beaten by a lowlier team. Can get overconfident.

Sherlock Stew here. | Huh? I meant he'll move on from Zenit St. Petersburg before the summer is over. You keep trying to pick faults with stuff, though, son, if that's what keeps you amused all day. |
