Aliens are trying to kill the crew... Who have guns with which to defend themselves?
If everyone would die in a nuclear blast anyway, why not shoot the infected?

And what happened to the FX budget? "Whoa! Did you see the scene when the Tardis appeared round them in the middle of a nuclear blast? That was almost as awesome as Galactica dropping into the atmosphere!"
No. No we didn't see that.

Some good hints at the doctor going "dark", but it remains to be seen how well that's followed up.
Looks like he's already seen the light - Which is disappointing as if we had a really dark Xmas special, that'd have been awesome, as well as ballsy as hell.

Channel 4 is to hold an online debate on the death penalty following its controversial fictional drama The Execution of Gary Glitter.

With a Channel 4-commisioned poll showing that 70% of the public think the death penalty should be reintroduced, the broadcaster is to transmit a one-off, 90-minute fictional drama imagining the consequences of capital punishment being reinstated.

In the drama, the first person to be tried under a new Capital Crimes Against Children law is Paul Gadd, better known as 1970s rock star Gary Glitter. Gadd is played by Doctors actor Hilton McRae.

Billed by Channel 4 as a "courtroom drama shot in the style of a documentary", the programme examines how society deals with its most serious offenders.

The Execution of Gary Glitter is written and directed by Rob Coldstream and produced by Juniper Productions. It will air on Monday 9 November...[more]

I was slightly dissapointed. Mainly because Jane Elliots work is lauded in nigh on every social psychology textbook you'd care to mention and her methods, as demonstrated in the program didn't seem to me to be all that sound.

I mean was there any evidence it had a lasting impact? Did it improve racial attitudes? Did it do enough to justify the slightly dodgy ethics?

I've blogged a more detailed critique and a potential means of addressing some of those questions (I'm at work and obviously bored out of my skull) but would be interested in anyone elses opinions of the program (it's stll avaliable on 4od if you haven't seen it and it's arguably worth it just to see the uncomfortably short interview at the end).

Shot in a "mockumentary" style it follows the lives of three couples who's various members are related as family members. Although the set-up is slightly cliché, a gay couple, a stereotypical family and a Columbian wife and son (from her first marriage) with her American husband, this is where the standard ends. The dialogue is fantastic and at many points I found myself really laughing quite loudly, something which is very rare for a TV show to accomplish for me personally. The casting is also spot on with the inclusion of Ed O'Neill (the infamous Al Bundy!), Ty Burrell, Julie Bowen and Sofía Vergara, with each actor really bringing something unique to the mix. I strongly recommend this show to anybody who appreciates good comedy, the "to-camera" sections of the dialogue have a very close resemblance to the original UK version of "The Office" and for those who are familiar with this, Modern Family will be a welcomed return. Great show, great acting, great script. Highly recommended.
