| Re: peoples problems with scarification/branding scarification & branding can look cool.
but same with tattoos a few decades ago, most just look(ed) like shit cos of being inexpertly done.
Tattoos & piercings have become common enough that plenty good quality examples are out there to give a general acceptance, branding & scarring still get "ewwww" because face it, most still deserve that. |

I think it's one of those things that just won't appeal to me, but I certainly don't find the concept of scarification strange or weird in anyway whatsoever, just prefer tattoos myself.
And if I ever see you about, I'll have a wee gander at yours (you can prove me wrong) |

| Re: peoples problems with scarification/branding I wrote a big rant on this in someone's gallery (probably karbon's, come to think of it).
It's only messy to begin with - the final resuly can looks stunning. For example, I saw a picture of a guy who had wolf-claw marks scarred on his ribcage - they looked clean and artistic, but the effect just wouldn't be the same with a tattoo. Alot of people see it as more 'pure' than tattooing, as they simply work with what they have rather than introducing something 'unnatural'.
Oh, and Dyno, I know you just keep referring to it as if the person themselves just cuts themselves with whatever is around to wind people up, but seriously, shut it. |

| Exactly! The results are far more subtle. There has been a lot of discussion on Karbon's gallery re the pictures of my hearts. Admitedly they haven't faded that much yet but they are still fairly fresh. I'm hoping that eventually they will fade to very faint scars. In contrast, on my back I have some older scarification. The stars there are very faint now and, as far as I'm concerned, are a much more subtle modification than any tattoo.
I understand why people look at them and are disgusted or shocked...but its my body and I'll do what I want to it. Each to their own and all that!

Absolute pish.
This is the Tattoo's/Piercings forum, things like that should be allowed!
It's no more tenuously linked to piercings/tattoos/scarring etc than Shannows mirrorball picture.

I just completed my 40th odd hour of tattooing and Cant wait to get more.
I have a large hole through the middle of my nose and im going to make it bigger ( again )
I plan on stretching some foreskin/scrotum pieceings up to a descent wee size in the near future.
Its my body. I will do what I want.
When people ask me' why ? '
I cant give them an answer, so I say why not ?
Lovin karbons gallery now, If I ever meet either of you, it will be with a smile and admiration

| Re: peoples problems with scarification/branding Oh aye, and all the crap about 'cutting yourself for the pain' is a load of bullshit - scarification and being a 'cutter' are WORLDS apart: scarification is for the final result, just like a tattoo or piercing, and there is little or no interest in the pain (infact, people who are dead set on getting scarification are oftern put off by the pain, and ask for anaesthetic ointment etc); whereas being a cutter is about release through pain and is about emotional pain being channeled through physical pain (plus other things - I don't claim to be an expert).
It's thoroughly insulting to both cutters and people into scarification to confuse the two! |

| Re: peoples problems with scarification/branding i wonder if sometimes people don't like scarification because of the association with what is perceived to be less 'cultured' 3rd world countries...(NOT accusing anyone here of being racist...or owty...) where scarification is intricate and seen as desirable & beautiful - mirroring ones social status, and increasing it in some cases.
me, i see no difference between tattooing and scarification. i do not presume to offer an opinion on how a person wishes to present themselves to the rest of the world. ..scarfication/branding & Tattooing, to me, offer the ability to permanantly change what you are born with, to modify your apearance beyond what may be regarded as socially acceptable....to me that is the most personal form of 'art' that there is and i applaud those confident enough with their internal self to want to use the external in what is still regarded as a non conventional way.
but, i wouldn't say it was 'hot'. i don't imagine that people undergo scarification or branding in order to make themselves more sexually attractive to others. i see it as a more personal thing.

I'm actually not too fond of a lot of tattoos in that I think a lot of people get them purely to fit-in and to show off, rather than it being a personal thing.
Getting a few stars on your arm gives you that bit extra cred.
Maybe I'm just getting cynical.
