Glasgow Roller Girls have their first ever bout against London Rollergirls on Sat 29th May at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre, 1 Philip Lane, Tottenham, London, N15 4JA
RIOTS OF SPRING: LONDON ROLLERGIRLS V GLASGOW ROLLER GIRLS
All-girl roller derby league the London Rollergirls go head to head with Scotland's finest, the Glasgow Roller Girls, in our first ever inter-league match on Saturday 29th March.
Our last two events sold out well in advance so get your tickets as soon as they go on sale to watch the best hard-hitting, fast-skating roller derby action the country's got to offer.
A recap for latecomers: roller derby is a fierce, full-contact, female-only sport played on old-school quad rollerskates. Two teams of four skate around a circular track, while each team's point-scorer ("jammer") races through, scoring points for each opposing team member she passes. The catch? Bone-crushing shoulder barges and hip checks are totally legit: expect more than a few spills as pack members try and knock down their opposing jammers or push them out of bounds.
And you can expect more from roller derby bouts than your average Saturday afternoon sports match. As well as some seriously awesome athleticism, there will be a bar, half-time entertainment, DJs playing punk, pop, indie and electro, and maybe even prizes to be won. Oh, and rollergirls tend to bring something special to the concept of team uniforms (we like: stripy socks, tutus, fake black eyes, gold lame hot pants, retro stylin'). You can congratulate your favourite rollergirl (Fox Sake? Correctional Felicity?) with a beer afterwards, at the mother of all afterparties in a nearby bar, details TBC.
