| Surf Kayaking and Playboating... anyone ever tried it out at sea, or jus playing in a standing wave?
not tried actual surfin in the sea yet (perhaps this fri/sat/sun and defo at end of may for a week) but attempted to play in many a wave. on friday jus their i got into a nice wee standin wave and managed to hold my position for the first time! WOoo, it felt so good man..
next all i need to learn is taileys, cartwheels and popouts and i'll in their with the krew who can do..
but yeah, waves provide much fun when in a kayak and you can perform many moves and tricks. i think popouts look the best, thats when the bow (front) of the kayak is in the water and its vertical, it looks class when people manage to wave before they go under (thats if they do) or make a funny face....(pic included of move)
heres a pic of stanley weir, i have attempted to play in this standing wave before, but it was rather large at the time and i went WHOooosh away. but gradually i shall master playin in rapids and stuff...
jus thought i'd enlighten people abit on the fact that in kayaking its not jus people paddling in a straight line its mainly all about the buzz you can get and the bigger water you can ride in. and also curious to see if anyone else shares, or at least has tried my passion? |

| once u master the art of the eskimo roll you can pretty much be confident enough to try anything, always jus say to myself, "its only water, whats the worst that can happen?"... drowning. but that wont happen if you trust the people you are out paddling with and that you either roll up or get out and self rescue or get a mate to rescue you.
you do gasp in some air before hitting some rapids, but once you in them, the cheeser doesnt leave your face and you want those babies to keep on coming, gettin thrown about all over the place gets your adrenaline goin fer hours.
but yeah, rolling up is your ticket to tackling the extreme.. well at this stage i wouldn't like to paddle a grade 5 river... i will, one day though, one day...
only paddled grade 2 rivers myself, but i feel confident enough to move onto grade 3 ones... but anythin is fine by me, aslong as its water.... |

| nice, goin away again this week for four days of surfing and one day of running/taking part in a competiton, so fingers crossed that i get far in the heats.
i took part in a comp last weekend, think i might ca,me 2nd or 3rd in the novice heats, not bad for ma first time tryin it, ahm gettin sent out a wee trophie..
see once u can so eskimo rolls like anytime offguard, i swear u can take on anythin, well perhaps not anythin, but.... ur alot more confident that before, so hope ye get that mastered and dont jus do the one, do a million an one (i swear i've done about that many), if ur havin trouble with em, jus remember, look at the paddle blade in the hand your bringing down, i done my first roll with someone saying this to me, cos it helps to keep your head in the water, cos your head is the most important part of a roll, gotta be last thing out for it to work all fine.... and obv hipflick also. but its all in the head methinks!
wen u say surfin do u mean like boardie surfing or paddle surfin? where u think u'll be headin to do so? |

| ..ocht, shit, ye havtee click on em... well, please do! i know no one really cares, but i am jus gonnae attach some pics, of the triple falls on the etive, and right angled fall also on the etive.
i paddled the triple falls (sucha buzz) and their wasn't enough coaches to student ratio for right angle fall (20 ft), so we jus had to slid fof on our arse, or run and jump into the soup, but sliding off was a buzz, its like... shit..... wheres ma kayak? yas canny wait to get those photos developed... but anyways
Right angle falls on the etive
the reason it is called right angle falls, is cos of this above, you have only a matter of seconds after going off "the dogs leg" to line yourself up for the next drop...
which kinda looks like this wen ur goin off it
an' then you end up here...
an the thing in fool...
i went off this one, ahha its amazin, wen u hit the water, you go right under and all u can feel is the water rushing over your head, and then being brought back up all of a sudden, an poppin out... often with a confused look on your face! thats the last fall on triple falls
these are the first two... i got a chance to do em' twice, which was nice....
an yeah, theirs ur guided version of the triple falls/ right angle falls.... |
