Re: Parkour

I'd work on my balance and explosive strength in my legs, before doing anything.
get yer balance up by balancing on one leg at a time, vary it with rotating yer leg, holding it straight out, then work yer wasy to doing it with closed eyes.
Work yer legs by doing squats, jumping squats and weights squats.
And you'd obviously need some good upperbody strength for lifting yerself up walls etc, do wide grip chinups for that.

Parkour would be class to be able to do.

Re: Parkour

I'm been into parkour for years. I started off when i was about 9, just randomly jumping off walls and doing gaps. I never actually found out what parkour is until a couple of years ago. Check out www.anurbanhigh.com
A friend's website just showcasing the stuff we do. There'll be alot more stuff up soon.

Re: Parkour

I don't understand why people who do 'Parkour' consider themselves out of the "norm" or completely different from anyone else.
They're into a discipline similar to extreme sports, they scuplt their bodies in similar manners to athletes and martial artists. I just don't see the reason they need to claim they're "totally extreme and underground" when their simply putting thousands of years of knowledge into practise by being all floral and fancy, instead of using their disciplines for practical uses.

*shrug*

Re: Parkour

I've been in to Parkour for a while now, to be honest i was a surfer, but moved to the city(not London) and after seeing jump london , i've been into Parkour ever since.

its hard to get into it, initailly cause the moves which look easy r in fact quite hard, the first time i did a wall run i ended up nearly nutting the wall and and wrecking my knee, i was layed up for a while, lol.

really impressed my m8s, not!

i'm not saying i'm any gud now, but a little better after learning the techniques.

i've put a few tutorials on www.TraceurX.com which are slowed down to make it easier to see wots going on. there's three on there at the moment in the Parkour Techniqueces Page, i intend to get more on there but i dont hav a camera and hav used footage that other traceurs hav sent me.

anyway check them out and let me know wot u think
theres soom cool Parkour movies and adverts on there too so knock ur self.

Re: Parkour

its www.glasgowparkour.co.uk now..............

oh and can i just quote -

"I just don't see the reason they need to claim they're "totally extreme and underground" when their simply putting thousands of years of knowledge into practise by being all floral and fancy, instead of using their disciplines for practical uses."

I dont know who "they" are , but I think you are making a sweeping generalisation dude, I dont know anyone who considers themselves to be "extereme or underground" more than any other sport.

"their disciplines for practical uses." so getting fit isnt practical?
How many people who do martial arts do it so they can fight or defend themselves?
People who I know do martial arts for enjoyment and fitness, which I think are completely practical reasons.
