after 2 years of hell with the standard rst front shocks on my 2001 dawes watoga i finally managed to get a set of higher end sr suntours and a cane creek headset put on. what a difference it makes. i can go down stairs iothout fear of the suspension rebounding with a second of delay. i ended up with a broken hand last time. fuckers. now im waitin for a new rear wheel and a deore hydraulic rear brake to get fitted at gear of glasgow. i cant wait.
but yeh, i went into alpine and was quoted 35 quid more to get the same wheel/brake combo fitted. i know alpine are real good retailers because my old man bought a trek outta there years ago and it has been nothin short of oustandin in terms of reliability. but chargin that much of a difference in price to a shop just down the road aint too good.

Eh... Suntour forks are fucking shite. Why did you waste your money? And why are you going downstairs on a Watoga? It's an XC bike. Save your pennies and go for a better quality Marzocchi, Rockshox or Manitou fork.
Alpine really are a better shop though. Although Dales are the best. I have an interview there on Monday

i paid £40 bucks for em brand new. shoulda been at least a ton fifty in shops. hence the buying of them. i know they ain't great but they are a damn sight better than the bloody rst's.
like i say, alpine are great retailers but i was disapointed to see them charge as much as they do.

know. who would ever take a xc bike down a set of stairs when they're tryin to get to work. i must remember to use my stairs only bike next time

got the dawes back today. i'm kinda expectin about a week to let the brakes bed in properly. it feels so much more solid with the back new back wheel in place though. cant wait to get out.

£150 for Suntours? Who the fuck told you that?? The Cane Creek headset is wasted on it.
I mean an XC wheel won't be strong enough to handle any stairs. No wonder you had to replace it.
If you're short for cash, you should take a look at the classifieds in mountain biking magazines.

i dont. no brakey fronty. i suppose i'm gonna need to do sumthin about it at sumpoint.

but yeh, i dont really do much throwin myself down stairs on the dawes these days anyways. it hurt last time. like you say, an xc bike aint meant for that shit. it's mostly intermediate off road stuff i like. the kelvin turns into a great singletrack when you get out the back of bearsden. nuthin too adventurous but it keeps me occupied. how'd ya get on with the interview? i gots a bottom bracxket thats needin replacin. i may well come by. yeh, i know that suntours aint great. again. but they will do the job until next summer. the back wheel i got with the bike was hummin'. dawes use the same frame up to the £850 range and throw on lesser components the cheaper the bike. i've basically been replacin the bits as and when i can.

new rear wheel (deore hub,mavic 512 rim)
some mad seatpost i dont really know but is strong n lite. x-tasy or somethin mad like that
cane creek s2 headset. paid a score on this brand new
the spikey as fuck pedals outta gear for £15. no too sure what they are
sr suntour xcp 75 fork. on closer inspection, they cost about 100-120 and actually the most positive feedback of all the suntour forks.
deore front + rear mech

only paid out about £200 so far on this and about £320 on the bike itself. ba ba ba ba baaaa.....im humpin' it
