As long as they're kept clean, tidy and odour free, I'd just go for it. I never asked either of my employers before I did mine and neither bothered. Although there's not really an appearance policy in social care and my other boss just doesn't care.

Like others have advised though, I'd check your contract and workplace appearance policy.

Even if your contract says nothing explicitly about hair, check there isn't a catch-all clause about "bringing the company into disrepute" or similar.
