| Final Fantasy XII sequel coming to the DS No pictures as yet, but IGN is reporting thusly: Quote:
The last time Square Enix uttered the words Final Fantasy and "sequel," we got Final Fantasy X-2 for the PS2. This time, DS owners get the fun all to themselves as a Final Fantasy XII follow-up makes its way to the Nintendo portable.
Following double platinum sales in Japan (and just prior to its US release) Square Enix has announced a Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings for the DS. This title puts players in the role of FFXII's main character Vaan in a story about air pirates. Vaan's chick, Panello, also makes an appearance as a character whom Vaan works to protect.
Aside from these rough details, little is known about the game. Vaan and Panello look young in comparison to their FFXII counterparts, suggesting that the story takes place years prior to the events of the PS2 epic.
We expect more details to surface as the Tokyo Game Show rolls around next week.

| Re: Final Fantasy XII sequal coming to the DS Don't pirate - you can pick up almost the entire old series of FF games on GBA nowadays
Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls (1 and 2) and FFIV are all GBA, FFV gets released this November in the US, FFIII gets released on DS this November, and FFVI is due out by next summer. |

| Re: Final Fantasy XII sequal coming to the DS I keep forgetting half you lot are broke student scum types
I find playing it on the GBA just feels right for most of the older games though (espesh FFIV, and the upcoming III, V, and VI as they're all getting makeovers and upgrades - FFIV had a new dungeon) |

| Re: Final Fantasy XII sequal coming to the DS DS Fanboy have got some screenshots of Revenant Wings now.
It certainly looks pretty.
Also, on a non-FF related note, there's a rumour going around that Square-Enix are about to announce two games for the 360.

| Re: Final Fantasy XII sequel coming to the DS Anyone else get this?
Got it myself and I think it's fantastic. It's a big move for the series, being not only a rare direct sequel but also an RTS, with most of the control being done by the stylus. It actually works surprisingly well all things considered. "Units" are the usual FF beasts, called espers, trained via Summoning Gates. There's no cost as such, with each main party member (you can choose 5 of them for each battle out of the eventual 7 you get) having a certain amount of "affinity" - with each esper having an affinity value, and your party only able to summon espers up to its total affinity value (which is increased by levelling up, certain items, etc).
There's definitely elements of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance present, such as the way in which equipment is handled and the like. 45 main missions and another 40 or so side quests, which will give you extra experience, extra items and in some cases some of the best espers (old favourites such as Ultima, Titan, Leviathan, etc are only available to summon after beating them in their relevant side quest). Each area also has one or more battles against its indigenous espers, these taking the form of straight melees where you've got your 10 or so starting espers and no more, summoning battles where you have at least one summoning gate but where enemies spawn forever, and battles where you're fighting a group of enemy leaders in more standard RTS skirmish style fights.
Big battles do cause slowdown quite frequently, and naturally this isn't exactly uber advanced RTS stuff, but it's difficult enough to keep it interesting (at least for casual gamers like me) and extremely good generally. Highly recommended, especially for Final Fantasy fans or those wanting an RTS on the DS.
