It's manageable, but firstly, celtic do need that away win in order to suceed. | If Milan are through, they'll put out a weaker team in the final group games to prevent suspensions injuries etc.

I'm now watching the highlights programme to see this tackle on Brown, since I was pretty far away. |

| Re: Celtic v Benfica That binya had better get a ban beyond the automatic suspension for a sending off. that was a deliberate career threatening assault.

| Re: Celtic v Benfica That tackle was disgusting. He would get the jail for something like that in the street so why not on a football pitch broadcast and captured for millions to see? Thought at times Celtic were lucky but all in all Benfica just couldn't do the business in the final 3rd of the pitch. Well done.

| Re: Celtic v Benfica I imagine Brown survived it relatively unscathed because he had the side of his leg facing Binya, rather than the front. Totally gobsmacked by the tackle itself though, it was cynical beyond words.
Main men for me tonight were McGeady, Brown and McDonald. Centre-backs and (gasp) Naylor came into a good game, Hartley was his reliable self for the most part and Jarosik didn't do too badly before he was subbed. My concern would be big Jan's anonymity, don't know whether it was Benfica tactics but he didn't seem to be in the game save from one or two moments. Still, good result, and some nice football played, thumbs up.

| Re: Celtic v Benfica Anyone else think Naylors on the smack?
Well done Celtic. Well done Brown for his "aye he tried to do me" comment. Well done Jarosik.
Jan continues to fail to impress me. Not that Killen done muc more - I guess Jan gives you an element of work rate. Quote:

Naylor really needs ...I dunno.
Killen doesn't fight enough at times and appears to be 6'4" tall yet can't win a header.
McGeady excelled tonight, but he should be doing that more consistently. Then I'll start saying what a cracking player he is. Just now, he has his 'great moments'.

| Re: Celtic v Benfica Naylor was better last season because the left back is traditionally Celtics' Achilles Heel and if someone played there competently in the role it would be a turn up for the books. Naylor was more suited to the role than his predecessors last season like Mo Camara. Last season he also got forward and peppered the box with crosses. He hasn't done this as much this season and when he has they have left more to be desired than last season. There's a tendency for the haters to pick off Celtic players/figureheads one by one to discredit them (In the last 2 years McGeady, Hartson, Big Jock, Donati, Naylor in that order) and Naylor seems to have weathered the storm of criticism admirably an got on with improving with every game.

| Re: Celtic v Benfica He doesn't look confident, he doesn't play confident, he isn't all-bad, but something doesn't look 'right' about him.
Last year he was tenacious in the tackle and looked like he had fire in his belly. Yet to see it since maybe before the end of last season.
I have said recently the team as a whole don't seem to be as confident as they were when the season started.
They don't retain enough posession and give away panic balls and their passing has been better.
I just can't see where the corner is to turn right now.

| Re: Celtic v Benfica Aye, we do tend to give possesion away far too much.
Naylor wasn't bad last night, his positioning is terrible at times though. And all the huffing and pointing in the world isn't going to make up for it.
Caldwell, I've changed my mind about, he's terrible. The free kick he gave away summed him up. Why stick your left foot in, when you can get the ball with your right? i.e No idea what he's supposed to be doing at any1 time..
McGeady was the best performance I've seen in a Celtic strip in the CL, possibly ever.
Hartley was superb again, as was skippy. Jiri done well, again.
All things considered, a good performance from us, especially in the second half.
We need to work on the defence though, big time.

| Re: Celtic v Benfica Aye, it was an excellent game, had everything.
Both had ropey defences and both teams were very attack minded.
15 shots each at goal was the final count I think?
Tells it's own story.
Great result, great game of football. |
