It's not the end of this but it's a step in the right direction. Applaud Motherwell's board for showing some backbone.

The first approach is always declined. The club have to be seen to be trying to hold onto their manager.

I don't understand why he'd go, well that's not entirely true. Hearts are a bigger club than Motherwell, if he's got a normal relationship with the board and a decent budget then yea, he could probably do well.

I think the 8 grand a week they're supposedly offering may be the biggest factor, four times his wage at Motherwell.

You can say all you like about commitment or about how stupid it is going to Hearts with Romanov in there but when you're offered that sort of money it's hard to refuse.

Although, if I can contradict myself again; Hearts is a free ride, mostly, for managers. You do well it's "Well done under those conditions", you do badly is "See if the board never meddled so much".

It seems he might not even have to make the decision since Motherwell have told Hearts to take a run and jump:

Motherwell have rejected a request from Hearts to speak to the Fir Park club's manager, Mark McGhee.

Hearts owner Vladimir Romanov decided against extending interim manager Stevie Frail's tenure at Tynecastle, and a Hearts spokesman said on Friday: "We have requested permission from Motherwell to speak to their manager." But, confirming the approach, their SPL rivals' website stated: "The Motherwell FC board of directors have decided to refuse this request." Hearts have been impressed by McGhee after he led Well to third spot in the Scottish Premier League in his first season in charge. His side finished the season on a high on Thursday night with a 2-0 victory away to Hibernian.
But McGhee admitted afterwards that there was uncertainty about his future at Fir Park. He has said he is preparing Motherwell for next season's Uefa Cup campaign but admitted that he would have a hard decision to make should there be an approach from another club.

Assistant manager Scott Leitch earlier this week insisted that there had been no contact from Hearts. But he too said the Fir Park management team would be duty-bound to consider any other offers. Hearts, who finished the season in a disappointing eighth place, made Frail caretaker boss at the turn of the year. He had previously been in joint charge alongside Anatoly Korobochka. That followed the departure of first-team coach Valdas Ivanauskas in March 2007 to mark the end of a turbulent period at Tynecastle.

Other good news, Scott McDonald should be signing a new contract after his first successful season at Celtic:

Striker Scott McDonald has begun talks with Celtic over extending his contract with the Scottish champions. McDonald was delighted to cap a great first campaign at Celtic Park with a championship medal. "My agent, Lou Sticca, flew from Australia for talks with Peter Lawwell last week," said the striker, who netted 31 goals during the season.

Some good news for Rangers fans (I.. think?) is that Weir wants to stay on:

Rangers defender David Weir has revealed his desire to continue playing next season. The 38-year-old, who joined the Ibrox club in January 2007, is out of contract in the summer after playing 60 games for Rangers this season.

But, as expected, it seems like Kris Boyd could be away:

Kris Boyd will consider his Rangers future after his second cup final double in three months failed to atone for a frustrating personal season. The striker scored the first and last goals in a 3-2 Scottish Cup win over Queen of the South. "It has been a frustrating season," Boyd said. "I would liked to have played more but it's not been the case. "I will go and have a long hard think about it over the summer and we will see what next season brings." But Boyd, who has fallen out of favour as manager Walter Smith adopted a single-striker strategy for much of this season, was delighted to end his season on a high. "To score two goals in the Scottish Cup final is a dream come true and I'm delighted with that," he said. "The only thing I can do is get on the park and do my talking on there. I got another two goals, but I would have liked more. "I would have liked to have scored more, I would have liked to have played more."
