How does this benefit, you, the fan though?
You aren't getting the cash.
All you are getting is a lower standard of football to watch.
I know I would be far from happy if our best player was sold, especially if we were in dire straits, team wise.
Aye, great player for Rangers.
Turned out to be shite down south, but what of it?
How did that 8million help
you?
Bare in mind the team was in a different state when he was sold, as to today.

Regardless of his ability, the fact is that we sold him and then used the money to buy back Barry Ferguson and get Buffel.

1 of them barely kicked a ball for Rangers.
My point is, you it's nigh on impossible to buy a player equal to your best player, especially when the days of "big spending" are over, and capped wage system in place.
To find another Cuellar would be like finding a diamond in the rough (according to Rangers fans) right?.
If you want an immediate player of that quality it's going to cost.
And Rangers will not spend in excess of 7/8 million on another player, and then affording his wages would be a no-go.

I don't think we would've won the league that season if we'd kept Boumsong and not bought those players.

Argueable.

If we sell Cuellar, the new signings bed in well and we got 2 players in that would be quality and strengthen the team then i think it's a good move. It's a fact of life as well that Rangers have a debt that has to be serviced - we can't just say no to offers like that. In the last year we've taken £17m from selling defenders - if you ask me that's amazing business.

if if if if if.
But realistically, Rosco?
How does servicing debt, benefit you, the fan?
Of course you can't say no to offers like that, it was a clause in his contract, you HAD to sell him.
It was also done well before the Kaunas game, moves were in place for him to go to Villa.
It's "amazing business", but are you part of the business? Does it really benefit you?
Ask yourself this - is the quality of defenders (the players who have replaced Boumsong and Cuellar) as good as either of them?
My answer - nowhere near - and if we are using "if's and buts" - who knows if you would be in this state right now if you didn't sell either of those players.
If Celtic were to sell McGeady and Boruc (I'm under no illusion that they would do so, given the right offer) I'd be devasted.
Sure, it would be good "business" by the club, and if I was on the board/share holder - I'd be rubbing my wee mitts, but I'm not. I'm an ordinary fan, and I do not think it would be of any benefit to the team, to what I'm watching and for the progression of the team, what so ever. We must keep our best players.
Loads of cash coming in, but both those players are irreplaceable for Celtic. The team would have the cash for big names, but won't spend the wages. To bring in players as valuble as this for Celtic would require figures above 10million, and these types of players do not want to come to the SPL. i.e. Irreplaceable.
Same goes for Cuellar and Boumsong, if I'm honest.
It simply does not help Joe Bloggs the Rangers fan.
