Top-5 Worst Signings: 2007/08 Season.

Just saw this pop up on the BBC site and figured it's about that time of the season where we can safely say who the complete flops have been.

Suggested was this: 1. Earnshaw, 2. Sidwell, 3. Pizzaro, 4. Ben Haim, 5. Voronin which isn't far off the money in my opinion. I'll think up an SPL one shortly.

I dunno if that would be my definition of a flop. For a start, Sidwell is/was only going to be a squad player and he was signed on a free.

Considering he was an influential midfielder in a struggling team the season before and there was an African Cup of Nations taking away Essien and Obi Mikel for a month he didn't even break into the first team properly. Complete waste of talent and a bad move in my opinion.

I see where you're coming from - that was just the example on the BBC site though; I shall post mine once I've had a good think.

Do players that have been injured count as a bad signing really?

Or players that were signed for squad purpose... ie. like sidwell and pizzaro (he was never gonna be a first team starter, not with drogba, shev, kalou, malouda and joe cole about.)

Pizarro should defo be in there, big things were thought of him. I'd maybe say Joey Barton for Newcastle. Maybe even Owen Hargreaves given the amount of £££ that was paid for him.

Would you consider Nani so far to be a bit of a poor signing considering the amount spent on him? Just roughly throwing names out there and thinking of the EPL you've got to have Jari Litmanen!

Nani's had an impact, i probably wouldn't include him. Hargreaves on the other night hasn't really done much at all. Litmanen's been a flop but i suppose he hasn't really played due to injuries.

You could argue that Hargreaves has won the title for Manchester United (if they win it) after that freekick against Arsenal? Nani made an initial impact, but I'm just old fashioned in that I think if you spend more than £15m on a player then he should be able to slot in and win you games.
