Time for a quick photo though of course before I ran away  | and this illustrates what I'm saying to a tee mate;
You had the sense to get the fuck away when you felt threatened - that's what the riot police are trained to do, be threatening, let people know they are going to take no shit, and thus make the crowd calm down & disperse (for fear of being severely handled).
Unfortunatly, with a combination of drink, and a sense of victimisation, people have started to try and "talk" to police in full riot regalia - straight up one of the stupidest things you can do.
Anyone with half a brain knows they are trained to do one thing - get in aboot it.
I sympathise though, as all it would of took was 4 or 5 crazy horses,up for a ruck & chucking shit/abusing the police to convince the rest of the crowd to join in.
You find alot of "plastic hardmen" when you are in a crowd - as illustrated when you see boys aiming blows to the back of the policeman then bolting as soon as he has swun his punch...only to come back again when the officer is on the deck.

BTW awesome photo of the rioty.

All of that stuff is pretty much blinkered, the real problem is that the UK (especially Scotland, especially Glasgow) has an alcohol problem. Quote:

The outcome of the day should have been seriously pissed off and frustrated fans, it's the alcohol and societies continuing tacit acceptance of drunken thuggery that escalated it to violence. |

They brought in the riot cops i feel because they THOUGHT trouble MIGHT start. | Fair enough mate, although I don't completely agree with you. Quote:

| Re: Zenit St. Petersburg Vs Rangers (UEFA Cup Final) It wasn't as bad as everyone is making out.
I was there from 1pm, majority of the time in Picadilly, until after midnight.
There was a few bad apples, most of whom had ENGLAND tattoo's I might add, clearly chelski fans, but most of the real fans were in great form, 40 arrests from 200,000 PISHED the whole day isn't too bad.
I had a great time and happy that we had the experience even if we lost, it's not gonna happena again for a lot of years.
Zenit deserved it, good luck to them, they were a class act. |

Aye mate, thousands of Chelsea hooligans.
I give up, it just gets funnier!
**It's 50 arrests (and set to rise once CCTV is anaylised), from between 100,000 and 200,000 by the way.

The drinking culture we have is unpleasant.

Although I always thought it was to do with the related hooligan firms of each team.

Although I always thought it was to do with the related hooligan firms of each team. | Oh I know that. What confused me was why they were "clearly" Chelsea fans. Just trying to understand what made them clearly so.

(Or more correctly at locations closeish but not quite to Pittodrie)
Its not too big a stretch to assume hooligan groups got themselves organised met up with their Gers counterparts and started causing shit. That and its Manchester and the opportunity to raise merry hell in the city (although not really) the team is in from might be too good an opportunity to pass up.

| Re: Zenit St. Petersburg Vs Rangers (UEFA Cup Final) Listen to Awesomeus giving it the usual exaggeration.
Total amount of cunts, utter cunts that were causing shite, 300. If yer fucking lucky. Less than 0.0015-0.003%, using Awesomeus logic.
Don't get me wrong, i'm totally embarassed for all that happened, but as the scenes that myself and a few thousand others that were a) at Albert Square for the game, b) in the Train Station in the early hours, and, oh, c) everyone else who happened to be in Manchester during Thursday afternoon at all, it wasn't even fucking close to as bad as the media/maximus etc are making out.
