| Re: Zenit St. Petersburg Vs Rangers (UEFA Cup Final) It's not about getting 'pissed up and mental', it's about the 'beliefs' these arseholes have. The chants have to go. The mindset has to go. The booze exacerbates it, but that's not the catalyst, far from it.

| Re: Zenit St. Petersburg Vs Rangers (UEFA Cup Final) These people would still hold these beliefs without Rangers.
It's something about Rangers that attracts them and I'm willing to bet that Orange Strips and the like do nothing to keep them away.

The mindset of 'friendly' rivalry also seems to include dislike and abuse. You can say that its all in fun and thats cool, but it obviously isn't for everyone.
Given that the majority of Scotland is subject to localised intolerance and small-minded bigotry, I find it hard to believe that football only brings out the best in the majority of people.
You want the mindset to change? Treat any opposing teams and fans with camaraderie and repect.
Don't see it happening. The line between friendly rivalry and sectarian discrimination is invisible to most. |

The line between friendly rivalry and sectarian discrimination is invisible to most. | I'm not too sure what you're getting at, myself and the vast majority around me treated the Russians with respect, camaraderie and goodwill before, during and after the game. It's the "fuck the pope, fenian blood, UDF" shit that's the problem, and they'd chant that whether they had a beer in their hand or not.

I have never seen anyone fighting over genuine religious differences.
Ever. Quote:

Ever. | Aye, not genuine or well thought out religious differences anyway. Most of it seems to be because they think that's how they should act towards the other faith/side. |
