Summer 2008 Signings Thread.

It's always bugged me that we have a thread for rumours that can often be 40 pages long, or whatever, and it's murder telling what is a signing and what is a rumour that's been heard in a bar somewhere.

So here is a thread that's just for players that have signed, preferably post with a link to confirm it if you can.
Quote:
Villarreal have completed the signing of Edmilson on a free transfer from Barcelona.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...601441,00.html

Quote:
Mark Schwarzer has turned down a new contract at Middlesbrough and signed for Premier League rivals Fulham.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...596055,00.html

Quote:
Real Madrid have completed the signing of Ezequiel Garay from Racing Santander.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...584999,00.html

Newcastle will be disappointed since they were in for Edmilson and he decided to opt for Champions League football with the second best team in Spain rather than play in the pissing rain for Newcastle with Alan Smith. Mark Schwarzer.. I'd have taken to Celtic on the bosman to get rid of that idiot Mark Brown, and Football Manager legend Ezequiel Garay gets his move to Madrid!

Celtic target Ognjen Vukojević joins Dynamo Kiev for 8m Euros. Don't expect this to be the only summer target whose pricetag proves prohibitive now that the pound isn't doing as well as the Euro: 8m Euros converts to ~£6.34 million this year; with last summers exchange rates it worked out at about £5.26 million.

I'm ever so slightly a dunce when it comes to financial matters - but if the pounds doing worse then the Euro shouldn't you get more pounds to the Euro then Euros to the pound?

Morton have signed: Steven Masterton from Clyde, Colin Stewart from Livingston and Alan McManus from St. Johnstone.

I've always hated Alan McManus

Re: Summer 2008 Signings Thread.

Some decent activity in the last few days that I've not even noticed:
Quote:
Sampdoria have completed the permanent signing of Antonio Cassano from Real Madrid. The striker has been on loan at Samp for the past 12 months and his impressive performances have persuaded the Serie A club to take up their option to buy him.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...629189,00.html
Quote:
Juventus have confirmed the signing of Brazilian striker Amauri from Palermo while Antonio Nocerino has moved in the opposite direction.
http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195...629555,00.html
Quote:
West Bromwich Albion have finalised a permanent deal for Czech Republic striker Roman Bednar. The 25-year-old joined the Baggies from Hearts on loan last summer and enjoyed a productive season at the Hawthorns. Bednar scored 17 goals in 34 appearances for West Brom as Tony Mowbray's side clinched promotion to the Premier League and reached the FA Cup semi-finals. Mowbray has now exercised the option to make it a permanent arrangement, with the Baggies paying £2.5million.

Milan have confirmed the signing of Italy international Gianluca Zambrotta from Barcelona.

Hannover sign Brum Shitty's Mikael Forssell

Decent player, but too injury prone.

Re: Summer 2008 Signings Thread.

Aaron Ramsey [Cardiff - Arsenal] Undisclose. (Heh, Wenger stole him from Man United!)

Mark Burchill [Dunfermline - Rotherham] Free

I still think the transfer of the summer so far has been Spurs snapping up Giovanni Dos Santos for £4.7m from Barcelona. If he can get a run of games and build up his body size he could be a fantastically talented attacking midfielder. The best part was Arsenal's Carlos Vela who's his Mexican team-mate internationally said that he was happy for Giovanni as he could not get a regular game in order to progress and, "Move on to a better team."

Modric was great yesterday for Croatia too. Spurs could do well this season.

I'm sticking my neck out, but I reckon one of the guys to watch out for this season will be Carlos Vela at Arsenal. They signed him a few years ago but couldn't get him a work permit, so he's been on loan in the Spanish First Division and then last season in the Spanish Premier at Ossasuna where he ripped apart Real Madrid. The wee guy is amazing! YouTube video:

£5m wasn't it?

Liverpool and Everton also offered him contracts.

Aye, it was £5m with extras that can take it up I believe. Wenger had him flown over to meet him at his hotel where he's staying to watch Euro 2008 and talked him into Arsenal, and when you look at Wengers track record with the likes of Vieira, Henry, Anelka and Fabregas the wee guy was never going to go elsewhere.

You could say exactly the same thing about Ferguson's record with youngsters though.
