A ref forgot the rules during the second leg of a Rangers European match, discarded the away goals rule (Rangers won on away goals) played extra time where Rangers lost. the decision was overturned by UEFA.

TIME Magazine has rated the Old Firm fixture the most hate filled 90 minutes of World Football. The magazine also went to Istanbul, Milan, Madrid and Buenos Aries but the Old Firm game was adjudged to be like "sheer venom".

Andy Ritchie is the only player in Europe to have finished in the top 3 for the golden boot and not be capped for his country (exceptional considering he was a midfielder) and also the only player in Europe to win the player of the year trophy in his domestic league and not be capped for his country
