| The Death of PC Gaming? For years I have been a diehard PC fan. The format has captured my imagination from the day I got my first rig: a Pentium 100 MHz filled with the awesome delights of my favourite games of the time. Quake, C&C/Red Alert, Discworld, and many more. I could, and would, spend days in my room at my keyboard and mouse. As PC gaming evolved so did my setup. At the time I remember my first 17-inch monitor running a game at 1028x724 resolution … “WOW”. Now things have changed. I refuse to part with the cash for another upgrade for many years to come. Why? Because PC gaming to me is a dead scene.
I guess it all came to an end for me with a few things over the past two years. Nothing has really captured my heart and my mind on the PC, the last true game that really did this for me was Deus Ex, and that’s where my story leads us. Deus Ex for me captured what a PC game is, in its essence. It has all the major elements of a true...

| Re: The Death of PC Gaming? To be fair though, while Oblivion is superb I felt it was considerably dumbed down from Morrowind. Even simple things like removing certain weapon classes, removing some spell effects, reducing the number of parts armour comes in and reducing the number of playable factions all left me feeling that the developers cared more about showing off HDR lighting than they did about building on Morrowind's success. The 'feel' of the game just isn't there to the same degree, and may well represent what I was saying about the impact of mass appeal - everything needs to be shown to the player now, nothing is left there to be discovered yourself.

| Re: The Death of PC Gaming? Sorry Octavion but Armed Assault is fucked, the game needs a lot of work. I was a huge fan of OFP, but this time round they have released a broken game that will need at least a few more patches before its playable both on and offline. Only thing that keeps it going is the mod scene. Other than that the basic game sucks.

Online Asherons Call was a cracking game with so many numbers and stats and I loved it more than WoW because your character could truely be different, I disagree with Zippy on the unique characters in WoW the only think really making people different is armour and weapons and even then alot look alike. IN AC where you spent your points made the difference. AC2 on the other hand was a step into the WoW style and it was utterly boring and failed. AC2 is now closed but AC still carries on.
Something else that annoys me about current MMO, ever body can get to level 70 relatively easily there's no real sense of struggle or skill. While in AC there was 1 person who made level 126 after a couple of years. The game made those players heroes, sure all they had done was grind a lot but they had put the effort in, the fact you could play everythign at level 70 but still had the ability to progress was great. They seem to miss out the cool factor, everyone can be a jedi in SW:G now, while before it was something special. Iwant something special in my games.

I have some hopes for Warhammer Online, but I was always more of a 40K man. Apparently the Battle Priest class in WHO is a refined versions of the WoW Paladin and is actually one of the best classes in the game. |
