You play as the SAS and the USMC switching between them as the story demands, a story which would happily sit in a Tom Clancy Novel. Starting off on a training mission, to allow those that haven't played before to get used to the controls, even a veteran player of these games like myself didn't feel bored, as it's presented like a actual training mission. Think cardboard cut outs in a mock up of a cargo ship.
On to the first real mission which sees you running about the real cargo ship with waves crashing over the side and a passable rolling motion being conveyed, in fact the graphics are stunning and easily some of the best I've seen in an FPS. The whole atmosphere of the game is set perfectly whether it's in a Russian city, a mountain village, an arabic town or at sea the graphics, music and layout of the buildings come together to give an excellent feel for the locations you're fighting in.
Still the deciding factor for a game like this is the combat; after all, shooting the bad guys is what it's all about. The number of weapons is just staggering, from your usual MP5's, M4's and AK's you'll also get, my favourite, the G36c, rocket launchers, uzi's you name it there is a good chance it's in here somewhere. They all fire differently and they all make a mess of the enemy. So you've got the weapons but what you really need are the tactics, there's no mad rushing into the fray in this - well I'm lying, there's the odd bit of heroics required but generally it's 'find cover and start picking off the enemy' or finding a way aound them. This really does manage to convey the hectic feel of battle. I found myself behind walls thinking "fuck I really don't want to put my head out". The AI is more than adequate, ducking when being shot at and firing at you when it knows where you are and dragging themselves into cover when they have been wounded badly, you rarely get a one shot kill here unless it's a head shot. It's not easy either I normally play these on the hardest setting but had to crank it down a notch though I'll probably go back and ramp it up for another go.
All in all if this game was a movie it would be Black Hawk Down crossed with Clear and Present Danger. To say it captures the cinematic feel is an understatement, it leads you through a story which wouldn't be out of place on the big screen. From start to finish this is a great game. It only suffers from a real lack of play time at a little over 5 hours. Sure after completion you get a few more game types like arcade and you have a full multiplayer option but I still can't feel being stiffed at full price for 5 hours single player. Mind you I'll probably play this again unlike Airborne which I hadn't touch since completing. Oh and just a tip when you complete this wait till the end of the credits for a bonus level. Enjoy, I did.

I'm somewhat addicted. I reckon its better than Halo multiplayer. |

| Re: PC: Call Of Duty 4 I'm a big fan of online shooters, mainly Counterstrike, I have to agree that the way the progession is set up is great and the stats it's a nice balance between Battlefeild 2142 and Counterstike. Maps are nice and compact and the lack of vehicles is probably a blessing, bar the called in airstrikes and AI choppers.

| Re: PC: Call Of Duty 4 Aye, this game for the 360 is pretty fucking good. Multi player free for all on Shipment is utterly fantastic. Fuck the team games.
Air strikes, i'm not too keen on, always seem to end up killing myself with them.
