I think Silent Hill definitely has the "Eew thats so gross, how were they allowed to put that in a game" factor over Resident Evil - but for suspense Resident Evil wins hands down.

Tough call, i'm still going with Resident Evil though. I don't think i've ever come so close to shitting myself than while playing Resident Evil 1. Code Veronica also gets a shout out too, it was pretty tough going.

Actually, i would also like to mention Hexen. That game might be old but I still have to play it wrapped up in a duvet with someone else in the room.

Haha I was scared of those bits too when I was wee!

As for scary bits:

The Half-Life face huggers were pretty damn scary, and indeed the aforementioned HL2 "Ravenholm" scene was creepy as well. Especially when those fast motherfuckers ran up buildings towards you.

However my all time most scary moment in gaming was easilly, in the (criminally underrated and unfinished) Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines RPG, when you go to the haunted Hallowbrook Hotel. Play that level and see what I mean. I played that at 3am in the morning and had to turn it off because I was too scaredd to play it in the dark.

Digital art terrorists Jodi made a series of Quake mods a few years ago that ranged from the unplayable to the terrifying. One was played in pure, blinding white. You couldn’t see anything, except the ocassional bit of lens flare. You had to play by sound alone, wearing headphones. Hear that shuffling noise behind you? Ohfuckohfuckohfuck …

Doom 3 is the only game I've ever found remotely creepy. I have quite high standards as far as horror is concerned.

ach at the end of the day i have a big gun and it is just a game so it doesnt really scare me, but the point of these games is to let it get to you, it makes it all that better!

to just let your mind wander while playing it.....

also, when u would be in a very large room, maybe even outdoors and u obviously hadnt spotted an enemy yet but they had spotted you and u would get hit by a fireball out of no where when the volume was up really high.......

In that case, Captain Planet, I did nothing but contemplate how horrific the world is while playing this game and it was the only one which worked on my new Amiga at the time.
