| Re: Scariest game ever?? How about that bit in one of the MGS games where the bad guy starts taunting you about the other games you play, by reading the save game titles off your memory card? Talk about breaking the fourth wall unexpectedly … it’s enough to freak a person out until they stop and think about how it was done.

| Re: Scariest game ever?? Eternal Darkness on the Gamecube was good at such tricks too. Some of the insanity effects it inflicted on you when your ‘sanity meter’ fell too low were just plain cruel.
The one which froze the game and flashed up messages telling you that it had crashed and needed to be restarted was nasty, but nothing compared to the one which asked whether you wanted to delete all game saves on your memory card … then when you frantically pressed ‘no’, said “Thankyou. Your memory card has been formatted.” (or words to that effect).
Hmm. A quick Google reveals that the same developers were responsible for MGS: Sons of Liberty and Eternal Darkness. There you go.

| Re: Scariest game ever?? I remember the sheer horror of Res 1, which I relieved when it came out on the GameCube. I was especially unnerved by the big crocodile. And being stuck in the sewers with zombies/spiders and having nowt but a knife for comfort.
Silent Hill was also horrific first time through. "Hmmm.. what's with the siren?... Oh the humanity!!!!!".
I also found the Hallowbrook Hotel level in Vampire to be a tad creepy, until I realised you actually couldn't die during that level unless you stood there and got hit by flying plates or something.

Spoils it if you know you can't die...

| Re: Scariest game ever?? When i was a kid those horrible pig/bull things in Doom were quite scary. But Doom always had so much room to run away in so you could always run off and hide for half an hour.

There's one bit that I always associate with two massive fuckers sneaking up on you and blowing you to a million bits with rocket launchers. Ironically it's the gentlest bit of music in the game but makes you go "OH FUCK! TROUBLE!"
