| Ken Kutaragi to step down http://www.gamersreports.com/news/55...ition-at-sony/
Kutaragi will step down from the role of CEO and instead be Honorary Chairman (i take that to mean he will still give advice to sony, but have no real authority to make decisions)
I can only see this as a loss for sony, Kutaragi is an influential figure in the gaming world, having pretty much created sony's games business from scratch. I think this has a lot to do with the Playstation 3 and its less than stellar performance (SCE - the games part of sony posted a $2bn loss this year).
Still, it is a shame. |

| Re: Ken Kutaragi to step down A shame? As far as I'm concerned this man was a non-stop fountain of gibberish and marketing buzzwords that had all the substance of a hangover turd. He's reigned over one of Sony's most embarrassing and downright pathetic product launches ever, and if you can't blame the guy in charge for that then what's the point of having a guy in charge? The company will continue to suck quite capably without him, there's just going to be one less peanut in that turd.

| Re: Ken Kutaragi to step down Someone had to go surely for Sony's myriad fuck ups in the last 12 months. Tis the natural order of things - as Seymour and Moore (2000) argued, when a crisis occurs the public require a scapegoat, whether that person is culpable or not (notable example of the latter: Captain Thain with the Munich disaster, as cited by Seymour and Moore).
A blame target helps reassure the public (i.e. customers) that something is being done to prevent a repeat performance, whether it is or not.

| Re: Ken Kutaragi to step down Best thing to happen to Sony since the PS2.
The amount of shit that has congealed around Sony as a direct result of Kutaragi speaking out of his arse and generally being an idiot is unbelievable. The man has been a PR nightmare throughout the development of the PS3.
I also question his influence - the games world is well aware he's a joke. The current flavors of the year as far as influence in the gaming world goes are Cliffy B (Gears of War), Major Nelson (XBL VP), Will Wright (Spore, SimSeries) and Shigeru Miyamoto (Nintendo). Mostly for innovative design, ideas or just getting down and actually talking to the userbase.
