With the drum aspect of this, I may actually be able to play on expert, god damn guitar hero and my inability to use 5 notes

When it says "Cover", it means the version in the game will be a cover, as opposed to the master track. It doesn't mean Black Sabbath covered Paranoid.

You may be joking about it, but the pre-E3 fact sheet that's doing the rounds explicitly states:

Microphone
Let’s players belt out the lyrics to some of the most recognizable rock anthems of all time!
• Hand held microphone with authentic styling and weight
• Rates singers in real-time, using pitch, rhythm and phoneme detection
• Percussion breaks – tap the mic against your hand to play the tambourine and cowbell notes

Looks like it is going to be $199 (unconfirmed atm, but a few major places are starting to post ads to that effect). We all know it'll be higher for EU/UK, but consider that the XBox360 version of Guitar Hero 2 with 1 wired controller goes for £70, the PS2 version for £50, and the base game of GH2 for £40. Paying £100~£130ish for a £40 game, a headset (XBox360 branded headsets are £15 new), the drum kit, and a guitar (most wired guitars on amazon average £30-£45ish) and you're coming out okay for the package you get.

On top of that, not everyone needs to buy that package, me and the roommate split GH1 right down the middle so we could get a 2-guitar pack - Rock Band is fully playable online so you could snag the game and a drum-kit and then get your online band on the go.

If this comes out as a 4-player with each player on a different instrument each it could be the biggest piss-laugh ever.

Umm, this is a 1 to 4 player game. In 4-player mode each player is on a different instrument.
