Shadowrun - now for Windows XP

http://kotaku.com/gaming/vista-view/...-xp-272052.php

Turns out this "Vista-required, DirectX 10 only" video-game that noone purchased (some because of a dislike of the license-abuse, others due to no single-player, and still others because of it's Vista-only nature) has had an unofficial patch released by software cracking group Razor1911. Apparently runs just fine on DirectX 9 on XP once you remove the files that say "don't install on XP"

Re: Shadowrun - now for Windows XP

I think it's a good move - something Microsoft should just acknowledge and stick out an official patch for...along with dropping the game price to about $30 from its current $60, could go a long way to saving a game with some of the most interesting multiplayer since TFC

Nice. Apparently the hack works on Halo 2 as well.

You mean like how Sony embraced Homebrew on the PSP

It'll never happen. Not until MS admit that Vista is the 2007 edition of ME anyway.

It's not, imo. XP was similarly hated when it came out until Service Pack 1 made it partially usable. Vista'll come into it's own in the next couple of years - but please don't forcefeed me it by telling me my DX9 games will only work on Vista.

Re: Shadowrun - now for Windows XP

This 'forced upgrade' situation is probably the best example of how software piracy can, in rare situations, be the good guy. MS can suck my nuts if they think I'll buy any product which forces me to upgrade to Vista when there's ample life remaining in XP, and Vista is still in many respects an unofficial open beta.

Re: Shadowrun - now for Windows XP

To be honest I really like Vista and havn't found it to be that much of a problem but I totally agree that people shouldn't be forced to upgade when the games could easily run on XP as well.
