| Playing old PC games on XP i went home and while digging through my shit found a couple of classic games that i wanna play again. Broken Sword I: Shadow of the Templars & discworld Noir.
Thing is Broken sword will only work on windows98, cant get it installed/working on XP. Talked to the guy in gamestation and he says theres a way of configuring your comp to make old games work, is this true?
Only thing i can find online is a comment saying:
"Tested on Windows XP. Requires Windows 95 compatibility mode, 640x480 with 256 colors to run."
Only thing is, on the 'settings' - the scale only goes down to 800x600? and im not sure how to get it to only run 256 colours...
Anyone know? Ive not tried discworld noir yet but im sure its gonna be the same deal. |

| Re: Playing old PC games on XP On the Compatibility section in the Properties page of either the Shortcut or the Executable for Broken Sword, there should be a line saying "run in 640x480 screen resolution" |

| Re: Playing old PC games on XP actually, just found something that looks good- Quote:
As always make sure you have a "clean" computer by doing a Scan Disc.
Close down all running programs.
* Insert the Broken Sword CD1 into your default CD ROM Drive.-->Ignore
the Auto Run-->If you have it engaged then just choose exit.
* Go to-->My Computer-->The CD Drive Letter where you inserted the
Broken Sword CD1-->Locate the file "Setup.exe"-->Right Click--> Properties-->Compatibility-->Choose --> Windows 98 for
Compatibility mode-->Click Apply Click OK.
* Double Click on "Setup.exe Icon" to start the install. Follow the prompts
changing the CD Discs when asked to. Click Finish. Click Exit.
* Go to-->Start-->All Programs-->Revolution-->Right Click on Icon for
Broken Sword--> Properties-->
* Follow the rules below:
* Compatibility-->Compatibility Mode-->Check box-->Windows98.
Click Apply. Click OK.
| So aye, im away to try this. cheers anyway zeb! |

probably simpler just to install 98 as well as xp and have a dual boot system
*cough* or use the compatibility menu

| Re: Playing old PC games on XP A game of "british bulldogs" won't boot up among the staff at my current workplace.
I had no problem running this game on the older "primary school" system.
Is there any way I can configure Ninewells hospital to run this game?

| Re: Playing old PC games on XP JZY I use a program called ScummVM for playing old games like that, you just point it towards the .exe file and it will run it for you on XP. I'm 99% sure that it supports the Broken Sword games, if you Google the site and check it will confirm it for you. |

| Re: Playing old PC games on XP I gave Dosbox a go for cannon fodder and did not have a clue how to get it going. Got it going in an Amiga emulator mind you. Fantastic game.
